    IKBFU Researchers Produce Magnetic Nanoparticles That Can Be Used in Energetics
    Physicists of the IKBFU New Magnetic Materials Laboratory have produced magnetic nanoparticles, which can be used in energetics.

    Physicists of the IKBFU New Magnetic Materials Laboratory have produced magnetic nanoparticles, which can be used in energetics.

    Alexander Omelyanchik, postgraduate student (IKBFU), has studied magnetic nanoparticles of cobalt and nickel ferrites, a mixture of metal oxides, which has ferromagnetic properties. Later, the researchers detected how the chemical composition of magnetic materials affects the magnetic properties of nanoparticles and how these properties differ from the properties of bulk material.

    The study has been conducted under the guidance of Dr Valeria Rodionova, Head of the New Magnetic Materials Laboratory (IKBFU), and Dr Davide Peddis, a researcher of the Nanostructured Magnetic Materials Laboratory, Institute of Structure of Matter, Rome (Italy), a researcher of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, University of Genoa (Italy).

    The obtained nanoparticles demonstrate good magnetic properties with tunable saturation magnetization and magnetic anisotropy. The results of our research can be used in energetics to produce electromagnetic cores.

    The results of the research are reported in the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. Co-authors of the article are Gurvinder Singh, a researcher of the Department of Material Science and Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim (Norway), Mikhail Volochaev and Alexey Sokolov, researchers from the Kirensky Institute of Physics of the Siberian Branch Russian Academy of Sciences, Krasnoyarsk (Russia).
