On April 1, IKBFU students and professors met the president of Russia Vladimir Putin in Novo-Ogaryovo, a suburban residence of the President of Russia. The presidential aide Andrei Fursenko was also present at the meeting. The conversation was informal: the head of state did not make serious statements and listened to the guests from Kaliningrad. In the course of a rather long conversation, issues of both university and regional significance were discussed. Vladimir Putin engaged in a lively discussion of the topics put forward by the Kaliningraders: the significance of the personality of Immanuel Kant for shaping the image of the Kaliningrad region, the development of innovative medicine, training of international students, repatriation of Russian scholars, the problem of tending Russian war burials, and many others. The full version of the conversation is available at www.kremlin.ru.
The animated discussion was interrupted by the Press Attaché for the President, Dmitry Peskov, who reminded that the President had to leave to the ceremony of opening a new youth cultural centre. Without hesitation, the head of state invited the Kaliningrad delegation to the opening ceremony. The discussion continued on the bus: sports training at universities, student mobility, the problems of pedagogical education – all these and other important topics were addressed by our colleagues.
The parting was very warm. The head of state said that the conversation with the Kaliningrad delegation had been very important to him. A decision was reached to hold such meetings with other federal universities.
Vladimir Putin visited IKBFU in 2003 and 2005.
