    IKBFU to close the network of Russian federal universities

    On the 14th of July at a government session, Prime Minister Valdimir Putin announced funding for the IKBFU development programme, INTERFAX reports. The total programme funding within five years will amount to 6.8 bn roubles.

    Vice Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov stressed that the decree on the Baltic university had concluded the approval procedure for programmes aimed at the development of federal universities throughout the country. To date, eight federal universities have been established in Russia.

    "In 2011-2013, the federal budget will allocate 48 bn roubles for the implementation of these programmes", Mr. Zhukov says.

    The implementation of development programme, according to Vice Prime Minister, will grant IKBFU an opportunity to become one of top 25 best equipped universities. Special programmes will be developed in cooperation with employers so that at least 97% of university graduates will be employed in the Kaliningrad region.

    Moreover, according to Mr. Zhukov, more than 50% of the university's teaching and research staff will visit leading Russian an international universities in the framework of academic mobility programmes; a physics and mathematical school will be established under the aegis of the university.
