On 23-24th May 2016, the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University hosted the final round of the Vth International Russian Language Contest. The event traditionally attracts students from leading Russian and European universities who have successfully passed the first, selection stage. It was the fifth time that the contest had been organized. The five-year history allows both the organizers and participants to look back and reflect on what has been achieved. During these years, the contest brought together over 3,000 participants coming from 25 countries. Such an interest shows the importance of maintaining active international contacts and communication and emphasizes the facilitating role of the Russian language, literature and culture.
This year the theme of the event was cinematography. Students from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Belgium, Serbia, Croatia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Vietnam, Angola, Yemen and Sudan tried their hand at film reviews, subtitling and editing for both Russian and foreign movies.
Irina Kuksa, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Tatiana Tsvigun, Director of the Institute for the Humanities gave a high appraisal of the event that builds bridges between cultures. They welcomed new talents to the community of those who love the Russian language and Russian culture.
Communication opens many doors, resolves many problems and ensures meaningful and sustained collaboration in all spheres.
On the last day of the programme, IKBFU students and finalists gave a concert, which was an impressive finale to the event.
