Project information

The overall goal of the project is to create infrastructure for the long-term development of scientific and innovation potential of both Klaipeda County and Kaliningrad region by means of support of young researchers and strengthening the cross-border research cooperation and networking. The project shall contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the cross-border region and ensuring the sustainable development of the area

The following research areas are prioritised: Regional Studies, Environment Protection, History, Linguistics, Educology.

The immediate objectives of the project are as follows:

to the Joint Strategy for Development of Research Training system in Klaipeda University and IKSUR (JS) and Action Plan for Support of Young Researchers (AP);
to make research career more popular among students and graduates;
to create data base containing information about young researchers, research topics, departments, supervisors, facilities etc. at KU and IKSUR;
to establish the system of information provision of cross-border cooperation between young researchers;
to improve technical capacity of Research Training System (RTS) at KU and IKSUR and to broaden use of ICT in training of research fellows;
to develop the model and mechanisms of interaction between young researchers of KU and IKSUR (establishment of the international research teams under joint supervision, organization of pilot summer schools aimed at introducing cross-border prospective into PhD studies at KU and IKSUR, establishment of the Associations of young researchers of KU and IKSUR;
to establish the Institute of Cross-Border Studies with branches at KU and IKSUR, which major goal should be organization of joint research activity of young scholars dealing with issues of cross-border region development;
to facilitate the interaction between Universities and regional authorities in the sphere of regional innovation development and to strengthen the role of Universities in regional development;
to elaborate new development strategy in the field of economy, science and technologies for cross border cooperation between Klaipeda County and Kaliningrad region.

Project actions have been implemented within 4 work packages:

WP1 – Elaboration of the Strategy and Action Plan;

WP2 – Creating the database and development of the web-portal;

WP3 – Organisation of scientific exchange;

WP4 – Establishment of the Institute of Cross-Border Studies.
