On October 21, the second EU in the system of international relations pan-European workshop was held in the framework of Europe days organised by the IKBFU's EU centre. Specialists in the field of international political issues from Moscow State Institute of International Relations – Prof. Tatyana A, Shakleina, head of the Department of Applied Analysis of International Problems, Dr. Alexandra V. Khudaikulva of the Department of World Political Process, and Dr. Sergey G. Abramov of the Department of Legal Support for Administrative Work – gave lecture for IKBFU's undergraduate and graduate students and teachers.
The workshop participants tackled the issues of contemporary trans-Atlantic community, the prospects of development of global and European security, the aspects of legal regulation of commercial transactions in the Eurasian space. Students got acquainted with the experts' perspective on the balance of powers in the modern world and their role in the globalisation process. In particular, Prof. Shakleina emphasised that Asian countries – which has shown little inclination to influence global processes – play an increasingly important role on the world arena. Significant influence is also exerted by non-governmental global organisations, which start setting out the rules on the world arena.
Is the EU a centre of joint power or a group of individual players? What rules will we have to follow? What are the mechanisms governing the global world in the fields of energy and security? Who will set new standards applicable throughout the world? These questions became the subject of an animated discussion.
The workshop was concluded with the presentation of Euroclub in Kaliningrad and a lecture entitled The European Union and me delivered by Søren Liborius, head of Press and Information section of the EU delegation to Russia.
