On April 9, 2019, the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University held the meeting of the education consortium, which is dedicated to the opening of a new ABB Engineering Centre in Kaliningrad.
Prof. Dr Andey Klemeshev, Rector of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Dr Irina Kuksa, First Vice-Rector – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (IKBFU), Prof. Dr Artem Yurov, Director of the Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology (IKBFU), Dr Andrey Shpilevoy, Vice-Director of Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology (IKBFU), Associate Prof. Vladimir Volkogon, Rector of Kaliningrad State Technical University, together with Michael Akim, Director of Strategic Development of ABB Russia, representatives from Tomsk Polytechnic University, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology participated in the meeting of the consortium.
The Engineering Centre of ABB is planning to hire 50 employees of engineering specialities in one year and later they are going to increase this number to 100 employees. The main goal of the universities, which are the members of the consortium, is to train highly qualified engineering personnel. The Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University has become the coordinator of this project. In 2019, there will be established five innovative education master degree programmes. The IKBFU will offer two master degree programmes, which are Applied mathematics and informatics «Software development for automated industrial facilities» and Information system administration and mathematical support «Information systems for automated production».
The leading researchers and lecturers of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, which have been training engineering personnel of the similar ABB Engineering Centre for several years, became the consultants of the education consortium.
The members of the consortium have discussed the education pragrammes and outlined a plan for supplying universities with modern equipment.
