On March 14, 2017 Michael Lotem, Consul General of Israel, visited the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.

On March 14, 2017 Michael Lotem, Consul General of Israel, visited the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.

He had a meeting with Maxim Patrushev, Director of the Institute of Living Systems  and Sergey Korenev, Director of the Institute of Medicine.

The parties discussed possible areas of cooperation in research between Russian and Israeli universities.

Michael Lotem, Consul General of Israel:

This is not my first visit to Kaliningrad.  This time I am here to discuss opportunities for  further developing cooperation with this unique region. There are so many visits to and from Israel and Russia. However,  it is rather  difficult to launch a sustainable business or research project. I think this has to be changed.

We could establish better contacts between local start-ups and Israeli investors. I believe we have good opportunities for  mutually beneficial cooperation.

Sergey Korenev, Director, the Institute of Medicine:

We discussed cooperation in the field of medicine. Conferences, seminars, interships and academic exchange programmes with Israeli University clinics were high on the agenda of the meeting. We also discussed  a number of academic activities in the field of pediatrics, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology.

A visit to Kaliningrad of an Israeli professor in pediatrics will be the first step of our cooperation.

Maxim Patrushev, Director, the Institute of Living Systems:

The Institute of Living Systems does research into various problems, including biomedicine and biotechnology. So we discussed  our cooperation in these areas. There are a few ideas for joint research projects. This question has been already discussed with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. We have met with representatives of the start-up community of Israel,  mostly companies specialising in agricultural technology. This area is being actively developed  in Kaliningrad region. Consequently, our discussion was focused on agriculture and biomedicine.
